Making it worth your time

“RescueTime is a web-based time management tool that keeps track of what you do and for how long when you are on your computer. Users download a desktop application from RescueTime that does all the tracking work, so there is no data entry needed from the user’s perspective. The application keeps track of which window is “in focus” when you are on your computer, and logs what activity you are doing and for how long you are doing it. The application also has an idle timer so if you step away from your computer RescueTime does not inflate the amount of time you spent on a given activity.”
Having used this product for quite over a month now, I feel very content to be able to clearly see where I’ am headed, at what moments of the day do I loose my concentration, where do I need to improve, and which distraction is actually affecting my productivity.
The good think about RescueTime is that it observes everything, down to the last second that I spend on applications and websites. Most of the stuff is already categorized into Very distractive, Distractive, Neutral, Productive and Very productive. Activities can also be custom categorized by users into these four classifications at convenience.
For example, by default, RescueTime places email in the neutral classification. But if someone works through email (sales), this might be more than neutral (productive or very productive), so the classification would need to be set.
The application is pretty light so no worries about CPU usage. The application can also be set to monitor your pc at all times or just during defined hours.
The graphs are spectacular and carefully chosen to show everything at a blink.
Highly recommended. Try it here
